The flaky, waxy skin can be slightly bitter to taste which is why many recipes call for this to be removed, however it is recommended eating the skin for maximum walnut goodness.
They are ever so delicious on their own, but make a magnificent baking ingredient, best for cakes and confectionary, mixing especially well with chocolate & cacao.
Walnuts are a rich source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).
